Charles H Williams III, PhD

I’m an Assistant Professor specializing in chemical biology and precision medicine. I earned my Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology from Vanderbilt University, and my research focuses on leveraging chemical biology to develop novel therapeutic strategies. In particular, I work on targeting underexplored proteins like GPR68, which has led to significant discoveries—such as identifying GPR68 inhibitors as potential treatments for glioblastoma and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

I have extensive expertise in high-content screening, chemical genetics, and drug target discovery. My research integrates large-scale genomic data to advance personalized medicine, and I’ve co-edited Methods in Chemical Biology, a leading resource in the field. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to receive numerous awards, give  presentations, and serve in leadership roles on academic committees. Passionate about translational research, I’m dedicated to bridging the gap between fundamental science and clinical application.

Outside of work, I’m a father of four and an empty nester. I love reading fantasy—my favorite authors are Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson—and I also enjoy gaming, especially JRPGs.
